Toni Braxton은 68년 생으로 미국 매릴랜드(Maryland) 출신의 R&B 가수이다.

브랙스턴스(the Braxtons) 활동 당시
발표한 싱글 "the Good Life"가 당시 소속 레이블인 라페이스(LaFace)의 소유주

L.A 레이드(Reid)와 프로듀서 베이비페이스(Babyface)의 눈에 띄었다. 

그 후 그녀에게 에디 머피(Eddie Murphy)가 출연한 92년도 히트작
  "Boomerang"의 사운드트랙에 베이비페이스(Babyface)와

 듀엣으로 부른 "Give U My Heart"가 수록되면서 솔로로서 성공의 기회가 찾아왔고,

두 번째 싱글인 "Love Should Brought You Home"을 발표하면서 본격적인솔로활동을 시작하게 되었다.

 

 

일반적으로 그녀는 대부분의 여성 보컬리스트들이 그러하듯
"새로운 휘트니 휴스턴(Whitney Houston)"으로 일컬어졌다.

그러나 브랙스턴의 보컬 재능은 그녀의 스타일을 선호하는 지지자들을 얻게 되었고
결국 데뷔 앨범 [Toni Braxton](93)을 발표했다.

이 앨범은 팝과 R&B 차트에서모두 정상을 차지하며 플래티넘을 기록했다.

 전세계적으로 천만 장 이상 판매되었으며 싱글 "Another Sad Love Song", "Breathe Again",
"You Mean the World to Me"는 모두 R&B와 팝 차트에서 5위,
10위권 내에 랭크되었고 평가 면에서나 상업적 측면에서 모두 좋은 결과를 거두었다.

이 앨범으로 브랙스턴(Braxton)은 93년 그래미(Grammy) 시상식에서 최우수 신인 가수상을 받았다.
